Richard Fatherley Celebrates 50 Years With Golden Voice

Richard Fatherley may not be a recognized star in broadcasting … but his golden voice sure is. Richard - who delivers great voice-over talent on Outpost Worldwide projects, and who lives in nearby Kansas City, Kansas - has been featured on countless national television commercials.

Now retired from radio, Richard still operates a successful narration business called AdVoice LLC. Fatherley is the booming voice behind numerous local and national ad campaigns, including John Deere, Jiffy Lube and Baskin-Robbins.

Energy Efficient Focus for Designer Karen Mills

Karen, an interior designer, is collaborating with Outpost Worldwide to develop WorldGoinGreen.com, the first online green video internetwork that showcases video of the most outstanding environmental projects. The objective of WorldGoinGreen.com, hosted by Karen, is to present the latest trends in sustainable design, fashion, energy products, landscaping and other areas.

A well-known interior designer in Kansas City who champions environmental projects, Karen also hosts Living Large, an interior design show featuring national design celebrities, writes for a national magazine, speaks at home shows, and designs home décor products.

Outpost Wraps Renovations

The offices and production facilities of Outpost Worldwide in Lenexa, Kansas, have been undergoing extensive updating and renovations, ever since we took over ownership of our building.

While it looks pretty much the same outside, step into our lobby, and you’ll immediately see the difference. We started with a warm and colorful paint scheme that we believe reflects the vibrancy of our creative culture, and we just kept going! What was once a video graphics suite and a producer room has been transformed into a state-of-the-art 5.1 surround sound audio room to handle any recording need.

Our edit suites are all state-of-the-art with the addition of an Avid Nitris Symphony, an Avid Nitris Media Composer, and enormous shared Avid video storage.

Our main studio now has a complete 3-wall cyclorama for creative HD shooting needs. We have added a new garage door for easier and faster load in/out of our studio.

If a client needs to shoot a green screen or blue screen … No problem. We are ready to paint the walls whatever color your production requires.

A Summer Evening with the Jellybean Conspiracy

Underneath a vibrant, full rainbow as the sun set in the rolling hills of Weston, MO, supporters of the Jellybean Conspiracy - including many from Outpost Worldwide’s Kansas City studios - gathered to honor “jellybeans,” raise money and revel in an evening filled with hope and joy.

Held at the Weston Red Barn Farm, the event featured a country style dinner, music by the Barclay Martin Ensemble, silent and live auctions as well as a pumpkin patch, labyrinth and various fields and barns to wander through.

The Jellybean Conspiracy is an organization that produces a theatre show in which kids with special needs, or “jellybeans,” find a place to belong and all kids learn the arts of compassionate action and thoughtful inclusion. Believing that the greatest triumph of the human spirit is kindness, the Jellybean Conspiracy is bringing their life-changing program, “The Jellybean Conspiracy Show,” to thousands of students throughout the US.

Sharing in their belief of kindness, Outpost Worldwide recently held a Saturday video shoot in which “jellybeans” could perform on camera and record their talents. Outpost attended the event in Weston and are planning future partnering projects between Outpost and the Jellybean Conspiracy.

Interns Gain Valuable Experience

Outpost had lots of help this summer with four interns, each from a different school or university. Justine Liese, University of Kansas; Jaycie Wiechman, Washburn University; Cooper Lightle, Johnson County Community College; and Clarissa Shields, St. Thomas Aquinas High School, spent 2-3 days each week learning various productions skills including camera operation, grip and lighting, editing, producing and other basic skills such as CD and DVD duplication, labeling and dubbing tapes.

“There is so much experience I have gained just from being at a place where I can witness things being done rather than reading about them in a book,” said Jaycie Wiechman, senior at Washburn University. “Everyone lets me actually ‘get my hands dirty’ and participate in the production process, rather than just making me watch and bring everyone coffee.”

Sinking their teeth into a current hot topic, the interns primarily assisted in the development of WorldGoinGreen.com. Each intern researched and wrote stories for the website and also assisted on various “green” shoots. When they weren’t going green, the interns spent a lot of time in the edit suite observing the edit of “Last Ounce of Courage,” a feature film shot earlier this year.

“Two of my favorite learning experiences at Outpost include shooting ‘Eco Elvis,’ a green story I discovered for the WorldGoinGreen website and getting to sit and watch the director and editor work on the movie,” said Justine Liese, a junior at the University of Kansas.

A handful of other interns from the Kansas City and Topeka area helped out on various shoots this summer including a music video for Kansas City band, the Architects. The video was shot at the old Meningers Hospital in Topeka, KS.

While their presence will be missed this fall, Outpost wishes each of our interns the best of luck in school and hopes to continue working with them in the future.

Music Video Production Booms in Kansas

Director/actor Dallas Henry and director of photography Jason Cantu - both raised in Kansas - have become one of the hottest new teams in production of country and rock music videos. They also represent the collaborative spirit among filmmakers in the region that is making eastern Kansas an exciting, new center for independent motion picture, HD documentary and television production, involving major projects with producers, directors and other production companies across America.

Dallas (left), who grew up in Kansas and currently lives in Los Angeles, is the head of Wheatfield Productions. Jason, a frequent collaborator on Wheatfield music video projects, is director of photography at Outpost Worldwide, headquartered in Lenexa, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.

Their distinctive style includes fresh approaches in the use of HD video and film technology with appealing concepts and great on-site locations to create award-winning music videos that tell a story and are authentically memorable.
